DEPICT

Developing Elementary (Learning) Progressions to Integrate Computational Thinking

DEPICT is an NSF-funded project with two primary goals.

  1. First, we are developing KELP-CS (Kids Engaged in Learning Programming and Computer Science), a new curriculum for students in grades 4-6 to learn computational thinking skills and programming. The curriculum consists of two types of activities: (1) non-computer based “Fired-Up” activities and (2) computer-based “Wired-Up” activities. Programming activities use a modified version of Scratch called Octopi.
  2. Our second goal is to understand children’s pre-instructional computational thinking skills and develop a learning progression to describe how students learn computational thinking.
